Charles Laban Abernethy, Jr., the son of Charles L. and Minnie Abernethy, was born in 1901. He married the former Sarah All and joined his father in the firm of Abernethy and Abernethy. The senior Abernethy served the Third District of North Carolina as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1922 to 1935.
